Foreign workers in China will participate in China’s social security program from July 1 this year, individual monthly payment nearly CNY 1,300.

Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the P.R.C. is now draft supporting regulations.

Statistics show there are totally 231,700 foreigners working in China with foreigner employment certificates.

Foreign security participants must be those who legally work in China, which means that they are directly and legally employed by organizations in China or sent to branches or other organs in China after signing contracts with employers outside China’s territory.

Foreign participants will follow “national treatment principle” without any limitation on insurance type. Foreign workers legally working in China need to participate in employee social security program which covers basic pension, basic medical insurance, work-related injury insurance and birth insurance.

It is reported China is discussing with some countries about signing agreements to avoid double-payment of social insurance expenses by workers.
